Christelle Hawkulek was born in Campagne-les-Hesdin in France, in 1975 and has been attending the studio at La Pommeraie in Belgium for several hours a week since 1996. Her pencil drawings on medium large cardboard reveal her dreams: women who are more often than not brides as well, stand in the centre of the paper while men are realized in smaller formats and usually relegated to the backgrounds. The fairy-tales architectonical motives together with the living buzzing of animals and insects bestow her drawings a narrative tone. Christelle’s expressive ability, despite the use of pencil alone, manages to create surprising inventions that stand mid way between the stillness of the myth and the dynamicity of nature.
