Since 1997, Yumiko Kawai creates in a workshop dedicated to artists with disabilities in the prefecture of Shiga. She is interested in weaving and embroidery. She can spend several months on one piece. Before she starts working on an embroidery, she draws geometric shapes (circles and triangles) with a pen.
