Dan Michiels was born in Hollywood in 1956. He has been at Creativity Explored since 2008.
Perhaps influenced by his travels of the world, Michiels’ work has a distinct psychedelic gravity. It presents a meticulous rendering of the mind’s action only in reference to a ruler, paper, pencil, and an array of color, and how these elements organize themselves in two dimensions. This can be a liberally amorphous registration of shape and color, or a pulsating, rigorous grid structure carefully filled-in to create a tessellated all-over composition. Dan is a focused artist; his process is painstaking and time-consuming.
When compared to his reverberating abstractions, Michiels’ figurative pieces have a calm gestural touch and use a few spare lines to convey information.
