Cathy Tang was born in 1987. Her work with Creativity Explored began in 2007.
Tang’s cubist-inspired abstractions have a heavy impasto of pastel. Her palette is bold and primary and within these colors and shapes can be detected the hint of a head or feet or parts of a face. There is always a sense of the organic in Tang’s line and intuitive feel for proportion. The sources for her figurative work reflect this concern, with the animal kingdom, portraiture, and still-life occupying this part of her practice. Her use of materials gives a defined vigor to all of her work, while beneath the surface the calmness of her observation gently undulates.
